While technology is everywhere, the type of talent you’re looking for is decidedly not.

You can’t trust your IT infrastructure to just anyone, either. You need a well-rounded individual, one who is well-versed and knowledgeable about a variety of topics, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. Furthermore, you’re looking for a professional with specific expertise in your organization’s preferred tools.

Unfortunately, the number of qualified candidates dwindles the more specific your requirements get.

The Available Talent is Available at a Premium

Technicians with the skillset you’re looking for don’t come cheap.

As a reminder, an in-house CIO will be on the higher end of the salary spectrum, and that’s before you even consider the costs of conducting a talent search. Even after you get qualified candidates, you have to review their credentials, conduct interviews, check references, discuss salaries, as well as other compensation and benefits. You’ll be lucky to get a qualified, affordable candidate in front of their computer within a couple of months, at least.

And the longer you go without IT support, the more at risk your business becomes.

While you’re putzing around trying to figure out your IT management challenges, hackers and other types of disasters aren’t going to put their attacks on hold until you’ve finished the hiring process.

Your typical hiring process could take anywhere from a couple of months to several months, if you’re unlucky enough to conduct business in an area with restricted access to talent. By the time you get your technician hired, it will be hard to say what has changed and what remains the same. While it’s their job to figure it out, you’ll have to help them along this process, and if you can’t… who’s to say they won’t just leave for greener pastures?
